How to get Rid of molds in your Bathroom

Do you always get put off with the Molds stuck between the tiles or ceilings of your bathroom, and you can’t even take a shower in peace; you know it’s there? Did you know that Molds are not only bad for your skin, but they also cause allergies and respiratory problems?

Bathrooms can be easy targets for Molds because they are moist most of the time. The key is to keep them dry and clean by getting rid of moisture and keeping all areas dry.

It can be a pain to get rid of them. But worry no more; this article will tell you how to get rid of the mold in your bathroom once and for all.

Why do Molds build up?

Molds grow in moist and humid places. And they usually build-up when the area does not get enough light, is poorly ventilated, or has high temperatures.

Molds usually start to grow in warm, humid areas. They can grow on any surface made up of porous material like wood, cloth, and drywall. And they thrive well on surfaces that are not exposed to light or air, such as shower curtains, window seals, and even damp ceiling tiles! Molds produce spores that act as seeds. They are light and float around in the air. Spores also cling to your hair, face, or clothing when you enter damp areas like bathrooms, making it easier for them to grow on moist surfaces.

Molds can cause several problems for your home and your health. Molds thrive on moisture, but they also need a dark place to grow. So, they often grow in humid areas where ventilation is poor such as the tiles and ceilings of bathrooms, because little light reaches these areas. When you shower, spores from the mold enter the air through your bathroom fan. They also get into your respiratory system, cause allergies or even trigger asthma attacks in some people who are sensitive to them.

Bleach can remove Molds present in your bathroom. It will get rid of the Molds and disinfect the area by killing germs and bacteria that grow in those areas. All you have to do is mix bleach with lukewarm water and scrub away the affected area. You can use a toothbrush or a cloth for this purpose.

However, make sure that you open all the windows and doors of your bathroom to keep it from getting stuffy and avoid breathing in the bleach fumes. Use rubber gloves to protect your hands, and wear a mask while handling bleach.

Bleach is potent, so make sure you only put on a tiny amount; otherwise, it can harm you or leave stains behind. If you use more bleach than needed, you can use water to dilute it and then pour the solution into the drain.

Baking Soda

Baking soda can also be used to get rid of Molds in your bathroom. All you have to do is mix a cup of baking soda with half a cup of water and put it into a spray bottle. Spray this solution on the affected area and scrub it with a brush or cloth. You can also let the solution sit on the Molds overnight and then scrub them away.

You can also sprinkle baking soda on the affected area and leave it for at least an hour. Scrub off the Molds with water and then wipe away the excess mixture with a cloth or tissue paper.

Make sure you wear rubber gloves while working with this solution as it may cause skin irritation.

Lemon Juice

Cut a lemon in half and dip a soft-bristled brush into it. Now scrub the area where there are Molds and leave it for 10 to 15 minutes. After this, wipe off the area with a wet cloth and see your Molds disappear before your eyes!

Lemon juice has acidic properties which help remove Molds but can be harmful if applied directly without diluting them first. So always use lemon juice in diluted form, and make sure you wear rubber gloves while scrubbing it. Make sure you wear rubber gloves while working with this solution too.

Vinegar is another option that you might be able to use to remove Molds, but make sure it doesn’t come in contact with your skin directly as it can cause irritation and rashes. Mix a cup of vinegar with a gallon of water and pour the mixture into a spray bottle. Spray this solution on the affected area and scrub it well using a cloth or brush. It’s as easy as that! The acetic acid present in vinegar helps make Molds disappear in an instant.

If the moldy area is smaller, you can dip a towel into this mixture and wipe them away. But always dilute vinegar before using it, and wear rubber gloves to protect your hands from being irritated by the acid in the vinegar.

Another option for getting rid of Molds in your bathroom is ammonia. Pour some water into a spray bottle and add two tablespoons of ammonia to it. Spray this solution on the affected area and leave it for 10 minutes. Now scrub it with a brush or any other soft-bristled cleaning tool you have.

Ammonia can irritate, too, so don’t forget to wash your eyes and nose if any solutions get into them. It is advisable to use old towels or clothes when applying this solution. Make sure you also wear rubber gloves while doing this process.

However, make sure you only use pure ammonia and not any other product with the word “ammonia” in it. Also, always spray or wipe down any cleaning solution before using it in the bathroom, as that will prevent the Molds from coming back again.

That’s right! You can use vodka to get rid of Molds too. Vodka kills germs, removes Molds, and leaves a fresh smell. Just mix some vodka with water and put it into a spray bottle. Spray the solution on the affected areas and leave them for 15 minutes before scrubbing them away.

Olive Oil and Baking Soda

To get rid of Molds in your bathroom, all you have to do is mix some olive oil with baking soda and make a paste. Put this paste on the affected area for 5 minutes and then rinse it off with water. Use a soft cloth or brush to scrub it away.

Not only will this mixture remove Molds, but it will also prevent them from coming back for a long time by leaving behind a protective layer that prevents the mold from growing again.

How To Prevent Molds From Your Bathroom

The thing about Molds is that they are formed due to moisture. It would help if you kept your bathroom dry to prevent Molds from coming back again.

Hang a dehumidifier over the shower and let it do its job throughout the day. Have a ventilation system installed in your bathroom and keep your bathroom door closed while you’re having your showers to prevent moisture from accumulating inside that room, or else it will end up giving birth to Molds.

You should also ensure that there is no leakage in your bathroom and if you have a window, make sure it is open when you are taking a shower or bath so that moisture can escape outside.

When you’re done with cleaning the Molds from your bathroom walls, make sure you wash the area well with warm water to get rid of any cleaning solution. Then use the ventilation system to air out your bathroom and dry it.

Also, always remember to wear rubber gloves while working on any cleaning solution in your bathroom because bathroom Molds are not something you need to play with; other solutions work well too for removing Molds from your bathroom, but these products might not be accessible to you all the time. So, make sure you protect your skin from any harsh chemicals by wearing rubber gloves.

If you notice a mold problem in your bathroom, the first thing to do is get rid of it. For smaller patches, use vinegar or ammonia but if the mold covers more than just one area, then try using vodka or olive oil and baking soda paste. To prevent future occurrences, focus on removing all moisture from your bathroom by installing ventilation systems and leaving windows open when taking showers or baths. Make sure that any cleaning solution you will work with has been washed off before closing up for long periods. To make sure no problems happen again in the future, always wear rubber gloves during cleanings. While these solutions might not be accessible sometimes, they still contain harsh chemicals that will irritate the skin even through gloves.
